Celebrating over 100 years of Freemasonry, Petersham is a vibrant and friendly Lodge based at the Guildford Masonic Centre, Weybourne House, in Guildford, Surrey. We take pride in our history, our diverse membership, and our shared commitment to friendship, integrity, and service to others.

Our 29 subscribing members range in age from 25 to over 90 and come from all walks of life — including forensic science, academia, the arts, IT, therapy, geology, the military, and project management. Among our retired brethren are former police officers, company directors, social workers, and skilled tradesmen. What unites us is a spirit of camaraderie, curiosity, and a desire to make a positive difference.

Freemasonry is just one part of our members’ active lives. We’re anglers, golfers, gardeners, cyclists, shooters, ten-pin bowlers, skiers, and Formula 1 fans — and we enjoy bringing that same enthusiasm to our Lodge life and social events. We are also husbands, partners, parents, grand parents... great grandparents, friends and colleagues.  Fundamentally, we are a family lodge.

As a Saturday Lodge, we meet five times a year (October, November, January, March, and April), with regular instruction evenings and opportunities for personal development and mentoring — both in person and through online learning for those who live further afield.

Our calendar extends well beyond the Lodge room. We host Spring and Christmas lunches, Ladies Festival Weekends, and a range of social gatherings that bring members, families, and friends together. These events also support our charitable endeavours, through which we’ve raised significant funds for causes close to our hearts.

Whether you’re curious about Freemasonry, seeking new friendships, or looking to give back to your community, you’ll find a warm welcome at Petersham.

What is Freemasonry?

The Guiding Princples

We emphasise integrity, friendship, respect, and service in everything we do, aiming to make a positive impact within our lodge and the wider community. Masonry is all about making good men, better men using these guiding principles.

Building Good Men

Honesty, trustworthiness, honour, reliability, and conscientiousness form the foundation of a virtuous character. They foster trust, maintain integrity, and demonstrate commitment, ultimately leading to a life of strong principles and dependable actions.

Building Bonds

Freemasonry gives members many opportunities to make a wide circle of friends for life who share common interests and values. It provides a bond of friendship and a sense of belonging. This promotes a feeling of enjoyment and fulfilment.

Building Unity

From its earliest days, Freemasonry has respected the beliefs of its members. It promotes an environment where diversity is valued. It is a space where different beliefs and backgrounds converge, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity, tolerance and harmony.

Building Compassion

Whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, service is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions by donating time, resources and skills.
